NOAA weather predictions released! Whats the winter going to be like?

NOAA released their predictions for the upcoming winter months, and they predict it will be a bit drier and a bit cooler than normal.

Experts with the National Weather Service admit the research and predications aren't 100 percent, but they're as close to perfect as you're going to get.

"They've gotten better every year, and I think all the skill diagrams - the verification that the climate prediction center does on these is that they're getting to the point where people can actually do some planning," said Tom Johnstone, NWS.

Weather experts also stress that just because we're going to be seeing a dryer than normal winter doesn't mean that we won't be seeing snow. That's always a possibility.

Tennessee Unemployment rate down

Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced Thursday that Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September was 10.5 percent, down 0.2 percentage point from the August revised rate of 10.7 percent.

"Tennessee’s unemployment rate continues to show stabilization with no significant change over the last five months," reported Labor Commissioner James Neeley. "Following national trends, we are seeing fewer job losses and fewer workers seeking employment."

The September rate a year ago was 6.9 percent. The national unemployment rate for September 2009 was 9.8 percent, up from the August rate of 9.7 percent.

Gay is accused of stealing a box truck from the Manchester Wal-Mart in 2007.

He escaped from the custody of Coffee County Sheriffs Deputy Donnie Thomas in March, but was recaptured soon thereafter.

Christopher Gay remains in the Coffee County Jail.

57 Hard Drives stolen from Blue Cross Blue Shield facility

Blue Cross Blue Shield is reporting to its policyholders that some 57 hard drives were stolen from a Chattanooga facility over the October 2nd weekend.

In an email to policyholders, BCBS said that the hard drives were stolen from a network closet.

The email further states that the stolen hard drives contained audio recordings and screen images associated with eligibility verifications and coordination of benefits calls. In some cases, but not all, information such as member name, member ID number, dates of birth or Social Security numbers could have been included.

The data on the stolen hard drives were encoded and would require highly-trained expertise, and specific hardware and decoding software to access.

In compliance with both state and federal regulations, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will notify all members whose data have been identified as potentially at risk as soon as it has been determined through analysis of back-up tapes. On an ongoing basis, the company will post information and details on its Web site, BCBST.com, in the Privacy and Security section.

Members or employer groups can notify the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Privacy Office at 1-888-422-2786 or 1-888-455-3824 to address any concern about personal information.

An investigation is underway.
